Peter J. Clark and Stephen Neill
Peter J. Clark and Stephen Neill are both partner at VBM Consulting, an international Value Based Management firm.
Understanding Value Based Management deals with creating value, managing for value and measuring value, this book focuses on CREATING value and maximizing shareholder value.
In the beginning of the book, Neill and Clark define what they call the Value Opportunity Gap: the difference between the current value of a company and the potential value of a company, expressed either as an amount or as a percentage.
In the rest of the maximizing shareholder value book they give insight in how the value gap can (temporarily) be decreased. There are two interesting generic chapters about how the gap can be closed:
- the role of the CEO,
- the role of key people in the corporation.
Also they provide for 4 specific approaches to maximizing shareholder value from the viewpoint of several parts of the organization:
1. Production & Procurement,
2. Innovation & Research,
3. Marketing & Sales,
4. Support & Administration.
If you have an interest in maximizing shareholder value or you want to analyze value creation from one or more of the 4 organizational perspectives, this book is highly recommended.
